Joe Formosa

Joe Formosa (born 1962) is a songwriter from San Lawrenz, Gozo. He attended San Lawrenz Primary School and continued his studies at the Sacred Heart Seminary as part of his secondary years.

From a very young age with the encouragement of his family he started studying the piano. When he was about 20 years old he composed a whole mass and later on he composed ‘Rock’ for the youths.

In 1993 he composed Father Manwel Cutajar’s and John Attard’s know as Giovann Attard Il-Ballata ta’ San Lawrenz. He was honored with the Palma tad-Deħeb award for his musical works. Joe Formosa is also the director of San Lawrenz Choir with the name of Levita Laurentius.

Alongside John Attard he composed various songs for different kind of festivals in both Malta and Gozo this includes Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija 1995, Konkors Kanzunetta Indenpenza 1997, L-Eta Tiegħi by Ryan Mejlak, Fl-Għaqda il-Melodija (1997) a Festival hled by the G.W.U and also L-Għanja tal-Poplu 1998.

Moreover together with the same author he composed 2 musicals, L-Eroj (1999) and A.D 1062 (2011). Apart from being a musician he is also a proud father of 2, Renee and Karl.
