Gilbert 'il-Bibi' Camilleri, was born on 23 July 1979, from a family of musicians including his grandfather Frank 'Bibi' Camilleri, who was a pioneer in Jazz music in our country.
Gilbert's father, Joe 'Bibi' Camilleri, is also a musician where he worked with the Banda tal-Forzi ta Malta as well as with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra as principal percussionist.
Gilbert started learning the piano from the age of seven, with Professor Charles Zammit.
In the year 1994 he took part in the Festival Għanja tal-Poplu as a composer with the song Ġewwa Pace Ville on words by Vincent Zammit and sung by Paul 'Bibi' Camilleri, where it the song won best lyric and best social theme.
In 1998 he won first place at a festival organized by the G.W.U with the song he composed himself Tlaqt mal-Mawġ with lyrics and sung by Bernice Camilleri.
In 2006 he came third in the same festival with the song Fjamma ta Mħabba on lyrics by Vincent Zammit and sung by Chantal Catania (Michel).
In March 2021, the song Għajejt Inħobb which he composed himself, on lyrics by Rita Pace and sung by Christian Arding, ranked second during the first edition of the festival Mużika, Mużika 2021.
The same song also won the award for best interpretation. Gilbert has written many compositions for various short films and trailers of Maltese books including the author Gino Lombardi and he is also the resident pianist during the program Arani Issa.
Gilbert is a musician with the Malta Armed Forces Band as principal pianist and percussionist. The song Fittixni performed in the Mużika Mużika 2022 sang by the singer Victoria Sciberras with lyrics by Lon Chircop was inspired by the permission of my close friend who today is unfortunately no longer with us.
For the third year in a row Gilbert finished with the 20 finalist songs of the Mużika Mużika 2023 contest with his composition Ġawhra with lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss performed by the singer Michela Galea.
