Abos hu l-iktar Mużiċista Kompożitur Malti antik li nafu bih. Hu magħruf b’ wieħed mill-aqwa Kompożituri tad-dinja, ċelebrità mondjali!

Abos Geronimo jew Gerolamo hu ta’ nisel Spanjol, iżda mwieled Malta u għalhekk hu Malti. Fliema belt jew raħal wieled bqajna ma nafux. Dwar is-sena tat-twelid tiegħu nqala’ wkoll ħafna xkiel. Faurè u Rolandi jgħidu li twieled fl-1706, Eric Blom, fid-Dizzjunarju tiegħu tal-Mużika, iridu mwieled fl-1719 u miet f’ Napli fl-1760 waqt li Magni Duflocq igħarrafna li twieled fl-1708 u miet fl-1786.

Abos għamel kors ta’ studju regolari f’Napli taħt iċ-ċelebritajiet Leonardo Leo u Francesco Durante. Ta’ 25 sena, insibuh igħallem fil-Konservatorju Mużikali “Pietà dei Turchini” u wkoll f’dak ta’ San Onofrio. F’dan il-Konservatorju kellu taħt idejh lil Giuseppe Aprile u Nicola Sala, it-tnejn mużiċisti ta’ isem kbir u magħhom iċ-ċelebri Giovanni Paisiello. Abos kien ukoll il-Maestro di Cappella tal-Kattidral u Surmast tal-Kant fl-iskejjel u fil-kunventi.

Skond manuskritt fil-Bibljoteka tagħna (Vol. 1772) miktub fl-1842, mis-Saċerdot Francesco Caruana Dingli, insibu li “Abos, Maestro di Cappella tal-Kattidral San Gennaro, Napli hu n-neputi ta’ l-Uditur Farrugia. Dan iz-ziju bagħtu jistudja Napli spejjeż tiegħu għax ma riedux jibqa’ f’Malta jagħmilha ta’ Organista ta’ San Ġwann.” Dan il-manuskritt iżid igħarrafna wkoll li “Abos rebaħ il-prefettura ta’ Maestro di Cappella f’Napli b’konkors reali.” Kien għadu ta’ 25 sena meta esegwixxa li “Stabat Mater” tiegħu u biha ħasad u għaġġeb lil kulħadd.

Abos kiteb bosta mużika sagra tħoll il-qalb u tgħolli il-ħsieb il fuq lejn Alla. Minn dan it-teżor ta’ mużika iktar li semmew il-Quddiesa “a quattro voci” u “Stabat Mater” Din il-quddiesa ġiet esegwita bosta drabi fil-knejjes kbar tal-Ġermanja.

Barra mill-mużika sagra, Abos kiteb ukoll mużika operatika. Dawn huma l-opri tiegħu: • “Le due zingare” esegwita f’Napli, fl-1742; • “La Serva Padrona” f’Napli wkoll fl-1744; • “La Moglie gelosa” f’Napli fl-1745; • “L’Adriano” f’Ruma fl-1750; • “Arianna e Tesco” f’Venezja fl-1758; • “Tito Manlio” f’Modena fl-1753; • “Creso” f’Londra fl-1758.

Dan it-tagħrif ħadnih mill Enciclopedia Italiana ta’ Giovanni Treccani. Din l-Enċiklopedija żżid tgħarrafna li ħafna opri tiegħu baqgħu manuskritti fosthom x’aktarx li huma dawn: Erfile; Medo; Love in a Cottage; The Maid of the Mill u Pelopida.

Dawn huma l-ewwel opri teatrali ta’ Kompożitur Malti. Dnub li qatt ma dehret opra minnhom fuq il-Palk Malti. Abos miet ta’ 80 sena fl-1786.
