The Fourth Edition of Festival Internazzjoni tal-Kanzunetta Maltija – 1984. After the success of the Festival last year, The committee from the section of The Ministry of Labour, Culture and Social Assistance is organizer this second International Festival of Maltese Song, under the Minister Dr. Alex Sciberras Trigona , The Successor head of the Workers Party and Minister of Education Dr. Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici and under the auspices of Miss Agatha Barbara , President of the Republic of Malta.

The First

In a conference held in January, 1984 it was announced the result after the first eliminatory was chose 12 songs, that was classified in three categories.

Category A, for composers Under 30 years. Category B for composers over 30 years. Category C consist with a Social theme .

Four songs in each one, and from each one must select the best one from each category. This means that from this year there where three winners from the three categories and the priezes where all the same for every winner.

Organization

The organizational committee was composed of the following members:- Joseph N. Attard as the chairman, Robert Cefai, Norman Hamilton, Peter Paul Ciantar, Dominic Vella, Joe Galea , Jennifer Abela and Ray Azzopardi. The Festival was spread on two days between Thursday 22, March, 1984, (the Festival Night), Friday 23 March, 1984, (Celebration Night), and on Saturday 24 March, 1984 (Presentation Night). And was held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre at Valletta .

The Festival began on 7.30pm and also was view on MTV under the direction of Joe Galea. Tickets prices for the Festival, for the two nights , were Lm 2 and Lm 2.50. The show began at 7.00pm and after the show there where transport for everwhere.

The Orchestra

From these year there was an expect of high livel, especially after their where new arrangment from foreigners composers. All of the singers sung live with a 56 piece Orchestra under Mro. Anthony Chircop and Mro. Joseph Sammut And this Orchestra was consist from the musician from the Orchestra of the Manoel Theatre and from the musican of the Armed Forces.

First Day of The Festival

In the First day of the Festival all the Maltese were present, and the foreigners singers from eleven different countries sung them in their own language. On this day all of the singers where judge by an expert jury composed by foreigner and Maltese in the Music scene.

Second Day of The Festival

On this Second day it was announced the winners, and the songs was sung in Maltese and in the foreigner language, beside this the forigner singers , sung another song from there repertoire

Judges

The members of the Jury who selected the winner songs were from different counties lead by Profs. Armando Moreno General secretary of FIDOF

Prizes

As a prizes all got the same Lm 400 for the composer and Lm 100 for the singer beside this they win the Ċippus trophy and also the others taken part got the Ċippus Trophy as a recognition prize. This was designe by Ino Bonello. Near the cippus a musical instrument, the Maltese pound and are united together dsawn laurel wreath symbol of winning. While the others composed take Lm 50 and Lm 20 for each singer.

A Trophy for the Best Foreign Singer. A Trophy for the Best Foreign arrangment for the Best foreign song arrangement.

Lottery

On Friday 23 March, 1984 was draw a big lottery with the first prize of a car cost about Lm 3,000. For this lottery , could participated those who guest the best winning songs. The second prize was a bedroom by Amara Furniture Centre and for this lottery all the except the winner of the first prize who guest the most popolar song.

Festival Comperes

The Presenters of this Second Edition of the Festival Internazzjoni tal-Kanzunetta Maltija – 1984 where Norman Hamilton and Maria Camilleri. While the stage director was Joe Galea why the stage decoration was under the hand of Tony De Giovanni.
