Edwin Baldacchino
Edwin Baldacchino was a Maltese entertainer in Melbourne, Australia and an active member of the Maltese community.
Edwin was born in 1940 in Ħal Tarxien Malta. Aged 14, his family went to live in Isla. He married his wife Mary and they migrated to Australia in 1961.
Community involvement
Edwin was an active member of the Maltese community in Melbourne, in particular for the establishment of the Maltese Centre in Parkville. He was a member of various Maltese associations - Reskeon Maltese Association, Newport Maltese Association, Stella Maris Maltese Association, Maltese Literature Group, Maltese Performing Arts and the St Albans Maltese Pensioners. He also served on the committees of Reskeon Seniors Group and Stella Maris Maltese Association.
As an entertainer, Edwin sang in various functions organized by the Maltese community. He was also an amateur actor, remembered for his role in the stage production, ''Il-Ħanut ta’ Dwinu'', written and directed by Manuel Casha.
Edwin also recorded a number of songs, including the theme song for Reskeon Maltese Association, music by Laurie Armato and lyrics by Dr Clemente Zammit. He was also a member on the 3ZZZ committee of Maltese broadcasters and on the Channel 31 Maltese Consortium with Joe Montebello and Frank Sargent.
Edwin Baldacchino has two children, Joseph and Ingrid.
