Corazon Mizzi (born 11 July 1987) is a singer-songwriter from Malta. She is most noted for winning the festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu three times between 2007 and 2010.

Corazon Mizzi

Background

Corazon has been studying piano practice and theory since the age of 10 and has obtained a distinction in all graded examinations under the Trinity College of Music. She is still studying voice technique at the Johann Strauss School of Music, Valletta under mezzo-soprano Claire Massa. Besides music, Corazon has also studied in the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta, obtaining LL.B Dip.Not.Pub enabling her to practice professionally as a legal notary.

L-Għanja tal-Poplu

Corazon's winning song in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2007 Hawn Jien ("Here I Am") describes the cry of an unborn baby to his insecure mother and her eventual response. This subject lights the fire to a topic at the center of Maltese debate, Malta being the only developed country in which any form of abortion is against the law.

In 2008 Corazon won the prize for Best Interpretation with her song "Illejla b'xejn". This song looks at the subject of prostitution from a humane viewpoint.

Her duet with Walter Micallef Tal-Aħħar won them the top place in L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2009.

L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2010 saw Corazon triumphant once more with her self-penned entry Mill-Għajnejn ta’ Tifla, which she sung accompanied by Alfred Fenech (oboe), Robert Tomasuolo (guitar), Maria Bonnici (flute), Mark Darmanin (percussion) and Mario "Cocker" Aquilina (double bass), collectively called il-Ħbieb tal-Qalb. She also won the Best Interpretation Award for this song.

Other Activities

Singing Philip Vella's Another Side of Me she competed amongst 10 other finalists in the Malta Hit Song Contest 2009 held on 1 May 2009 during Worker's Day celebrations organized by the Partit Laburista. That contest was won by Neville Refalo.

She is currently a resident singer on Kalamita aired on [One TV], which won the people's choice award for Best Programme at the Malta TV Awards in 2008. She also performs in many venues and events organised locally.
