Chan Vella

Chan Vella born at St Luke’s Hospital on 3 January, 1981. He is a Composer and arranger.

Chan Vella is following from a musical family. His father was the singer Martin Vella brother of singer presenter Carmen Vella. At the younger age of six years he began taking piano lessons while in the last fourteen years he began composing music. He is married to the singer author Alexia Schembri and got a sun named Avner.

He won several awards in both local and international music and they started from the year 2000 when his song It-Tfal tal-Lum (Children of Today) sung by Glen Vella and Eleanor Cassar placed first in the prestigious festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu.

During that same year was re-earned success which won the contest with the song in the Konkors Kanżunetta Indipendenza (Independence Song Festival) Waħdek ma' Tkun Qatt by Mark Tonna. In the year 2003 his composition Jien Irridek Qrib and won the first and only edition of the Festival Super One, while with the song Amen that same year was ranked first in the Festival Ilwien l-Istilel.

During 2001 he was honored as the best composer in the Discovery Festival in Bulgaria while in 2003 he also had the opportunity to represent Malta in various song festivals inside Italy which was classified first in Verdenoti and consequent year Tralcio d'Oro Festival.

The year 2007 was a memorable one for Chan as he revealed his talent when he wrote all the music of the musical Ir-Rebbieħ (The Champion) dedicated to San Filep with words of Brian Bonnici. This musical was a great success and much appreciated by the Maltese people.

Once again the years 2008 - 2009 were challenging for Chan where he wrote several compositions except he also wrote all the music of teleserial Nies Bħalna (People like us) shown on Super One TV.

The composer Chan Vella successfully participated in the Malta Eurosong where his participation was first named Stay With Me by Lara Azzopardi in (2006). In 2009, he had participated with the song Promises sung by Vittorio Gauci and Dorothy Bezzina, while in the year 2010 had the song Moments Lyrics by her wife author Alexia Schembri.

In 2010 he was participate with two songs on the final night of Konkors Kanżunetta Indipendenza including Illuzzjoni Dorothy Bezzina, while in 2011 take part with the song Malta Ġrajjietha sung by Nadine Axisa and Fiona Cauchi and Għad Fadal Għada (Remains For Tomorrow) by Silent Shout formed by Christian Arding, Dario Bezzina and Daryl Schembri as he got another composition in this same festival.

The partecipation doesn’t stop here in festivals and in 2013 took part with success in Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with two songs Fejn Hemm L-Għaqda Hemm is-Saħħa by Christian Arding, and Nibqa’ sung by Janice Mangion.

After several years' absence has again started to take part in the festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu where in 2013 participated with the song Il-Gwardjan (The Guardian) (with uncommon style Malta) lyrics by Kevin Tanti sung by Andrew Attard as well in 2014 the same duo get another song Il-Karba tal-Mument sung by Christian Arding which win the prize of best interpretation.

Currently together with his wife, is working with foreign singers will be issued in the near future some of his work on cds out of Malta.

From 1998 Chan presented a program and produced Maltin Biss (Maltese Only) a weekly on Saturday on Radio Malta 2 (105.9fm) between 8.00 and 9.30 am a program that gives information about Maltese music scene as well as many songs Sound on the same program.
