Buskett is the largest wooded area on Malta. It is a semi-natural wood, planted during the Knights of St. John era in Malta around the area known as Wied il-Luq. It is a very relevant site for Maltese folk singing, hosting the then largest folk music event on the eve of the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, celebrated in the Mdina cathedral. The feast, known as Mnarja, includes merrymaking with folk singing, free flowing wine, dancing, meals featuring freshly slaughtered rabbit to the shade of the trees.

In the late Fifties folklorist Ġuże Cassar Pullicino convinced the Rediffusion authorities to start recording folk music events, linked with a cup competition.

Recordings from these events are held at the PBS vaults.
