Benny Grima

Benny Grima born on 8 March 1954 at Naxxar, Malta and used to live at l-Imsida. He is the 2nd of 6 brothers and sisters. Benny attended school at St Paul`s Missionary College at Rabat Malta.

His father John was an accordionist so he came from a musical family. He started playing the guitar at the age of 13. In 1974 he formed his first band Harmonic Sound. Who were Benny lead guitar and vocalist, Philip Grima bass guitar, Joseph P. Grima keyboards ( 3 brothers) and the drummer was Dennis Abela.

Early 1977 they changed the name of the group and named it The Rookies and the new drummer became Emanuel Cardona.

They launched their first single in July 1977. The single was named Hija which was in the top ten in Malta at that time. In the vocals featured also Tonia Grima.

In 1978 another new single was launched named Lura Malta.

The Rookies carried on till 1985 and then the Duo Benny and Tonia was formed.

This year 2015 it will be the 30 years anniversary singing as Benny and Tonia
