Tony Camilleri ‘Bayzo’

Tony Camilleri better known as Bayzo born at St Paul’s Bay, Malta on the 3 April, 1947. Singer and Bass Guitarist.

Bayzo established himself in the musical scene in the sixties, when he was bass guitarist with the pop group The Malta Bums.

During 1966 Bayzo together with the other members of The Malta Bums went for a tour in United States of America and Canada a tour which lasted over months during which they give many live concert, and also in Germany where there record the immortal Viva Malta.

To date he still is a remarkable bass guitar player and vocalist of great potential. Bayzo took part I various song festivals in which he always managed to place in favourably high positions.

After Freddie Portelli left The Malta Bums Bayzo continute with the band and in 1973 they made a great his with the famous song L-Ewwel Tfalja li Ħabbejt composed by Ray Agius and lyrics by Alfred C. Sant and spend many months the the maltese to charts.

After The Malta Bums stoped and Bayzo keep go going on his owen, and true the years his got other bands too like Bayzo u Klikka

Bayzo had several television apperrances and tool part in the rock opera Dream

In 1982 he was classified first in the 2 nd Malta International Song Festival in his category. Held in the Mediterrain Conference Center at Valletta .The song he interpreted was’ Muzika, Muzika by Alfred C.Sant. Among this he take part in many other festivals oranizin in that era like Wardakanta, Malta Song Contest.

He was part of the cast of the rock-opera Ġensna an rock-opera composed by Mro. Paul Abela and lyrics by Ray Mahoney and directed by Joe Galea with the first performance held the Mediterranean Conference Centre at Valletta on 18 December, 1982. After was held for about 40 times in different places even at Ħaġar Qim and after years on twenty year this great work, was held again in the Mediterranean Conferance Centre for twelve times between March and May and for it went 17,000 people to see it, the main singer and big choir of 120 children, and in 2014 was held again this the at the MFCC at Ta’ Qali and this time with new presently singers but the orginal cast where their too and sing again.

After the successes of Gensna, rock opera, the Bayzo carrier got a new trend in the film taken of Albert Lattuada Cristofono Colombo, which was an important part of the Bayzo. Among others actors like John Suda and Lino Mintoff. This gave him the opportunity together in the field of acting. The experrance was not forget so much quickly, and with it lost to places in the caribbean where was done most of the filming in 1984. After he was involed in another great work by Mro.Paul Abela and Ray Mahoney Bastilja held in August 1989, Andrelisa work by Mro.Dominic Galea and George Saliba, L-Għarusa tal-Mosta and give his voice for the rock-Opera Pawlu 2000 He got also many toured between 1984 and 1985 in Awstralja, Canada, Amerika for the Maltese emigrants and was all successful for him, besides that he got a great sadisfaction when he went rappresenting Malta in several in Europe like Sopot Festival in Poland, Bratislava Lyra in Slovakkja.

He Got ldo duets with Country singer Marlene Chetcuti, and Claudette Pace and he entertain the maltese and touist in serverals hotels with his band
