12th Ode is a classic rock and metal band from Malta.

Formed on 12th July 2010, 12th Ode started off as a classic rock band made up of 5 Maltese guys coming from all walks of life and different generations. Most of them are experienced musicians and have played with a number of other local bands. In just a few months and a lot of work and determination, the band managed to build up a good set-list of popular classic rock tracks.

The band is made up of Laurence Baldacchino (a.k.a. Wenzu) on drums, Darryl Portelli and Jeremy Xuereb on guitars, Henry Portelli on bass and Daryl Ebejer on vocals. Together they have created a band which delivers a fast flowing live show which has had very good feedback everywhere they played so far. The band’s focus gradually shifted from covering classic hits to issuing original material.

The band was launched on the 5th of December 2010 at Coconut Grove in Paceville where they participated in a fund raising event in aid of the S.P.C.A.

In 2011 the band has played in various locations and played during many charity events. Amongst others, 12th Ode was the guest band at a battle of the bands organized by the Salesian youths. In April the band was the guest band in the Final of the 1st. Vodafone Upcoming Artist Competition & in May 12th Ode entertained the Rebel Riders after their annual charity ride.

In June 2011 the band took part in Rock The fest, a competition for upcoming bands organized by Farsons in order to find new talent to participate in the Farsons Beer Festival. 12th.Ode was one of the winning bands and on the 26th.July 2011 gave a great debut performance on the Rock Stage of the beer festival. The band received a very good feedback from the crowd present.

In August 2011 Angie Vella Zarb joined the band as backing vocalist.

October 2011 saw 12th Ode performing during Notte Bianca. For this occasion the band was asked to play an acoustic set.The only acoustic gig to date! This gig was also the first for Angie with the band.

During the last part of 2011 and the beginning of 2012 the band started working on more original songs and played extensively in various clubs in Malta, slowly building up a reputation for a fast flowing live show, in which audience participation, sweat and headbanging was expected each time.

2012 was characterized by many live shows including, amongst others, a very successful return to the Farsons Beer Festival and also as special guest for the Hell's Angels(Malta) clubhouse opening.During this period the band’s style started to shift towards a more traditional Heavy Metal sound.

March 2013 saw the departure of Angie from the band. The band continued to gig and at the same time trying out various backing vocalist in order to find a replacement for Angie. The band was invited to be a part of the Extreme Metal Assault festival for the first time in July of 2013, while also confirming their presence at the Farsons Beer Festival for the third year running.During both these gigs the band enhanced its growing reputation with the local metal community.

The band recruited Nicola Marie as backing vocals. She joined the band for a number of gigs including 12th Ode’s very first appearance at the Malta Doom Metal festival with a line up that boasted the likes of The Prophecy, Doomshine, Nomad Son and Dark Quarterer amongst others.

The band’s sound was getting heavier and consequently it was decided that there was no real need for a female backing vocals and the band returned to its original line up.

Between the last part of 2013 and the beginning of 2014 the band continued work on more original material. Still heavily influenced by the traditonal Heavy Metal sounds of the early 80’s, shades of Doom began to be heard in the new songs. In April the band began work on their debut album and during this time welcomed as their manager Albert Bell of Forsaken and Nomad Son fame.12th Ode are confirmed once again for the 2014 editions of two local metal festivals, X.M.A and M.D.M (warm up gig)
