Ġuze Cassar was born in Qrendi,on (22 nd, January, 1918) son of Joseph and Giovanna nee' Magri.

He studied at the Seminary in Gozo, the Lyceum and the University of Malta, subsequently becoming a lawyer in 1943.

He started his political career in 1945 after having been elected on the First District in the ranks of the Labour Party. In 1948 he became Minister for Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. He was subsequently re-elected in 1950 and 1951 for the Malta Workers Party, being appointed Minister for Justice in a coalition Government led by Prime Minister Giorgio Borg Olivier.

He subsequently rejoined the Malta Labour Party and was elected in every election between 1971 and 1987. He held various cabinet positions throughout the period. He retired from politics in 1992.

Ġuze Cassar was instrumental in the drafting of the Republic Constitution of 1974. From 1997 onwards he often held the post of Acting President.

He devoted much of his spare time to the Lourdes Band Club in Qrendi and served as its President for a long period of time.

He died on 27th November, 2001.
