Marcelline Agius started violin lessons at a very early age, at the School of Music with Guido Mamo. From there on, she proceeded to study with Mro. Mario Bisazza for several years. Under the auspices of her late uncle, Joseph Galea, a noted violinist of his era, her career was guided and flourished with dedication, promise and commitment.

She proceeded to obtain her ATCL and LTCL diplomas. In March 1984, she was appointed as a full time member with the then, Manoel Theatre Orchestra and in 1993 she appointed Leader of the Orchestra. This position held to date, was reaffirmed, with the Malta National Orchestra, and now the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. She proceeded to extend her studies under the tutelage of Profs. Joachim Atanassov and Ursula Gorniak. In 1994 she successfully obtained her FLCM diploma, following which, she attended various seminars abroad. In 2000 she attended a two week intensive course at the Northern College of Music, and on her own initiative she attended intensive personal tuition classes with Profs. Richard Deacon at the Lake District in UK.

Marcelline has been very active throughout her career, performing and recording in Malta and abroad, with orchestras and ensembles. She has had the privilege to perform, both with resident and guest conductors, engaged by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Furthermore, together with her colleagues of the Philharmonic Orchestra, on numerous occasions, she performed with various foreign orchestras. These include performances in Brno, Pesaro, Brussels, Rome, Spain and Palermo.

Encouraged by their performance abroad, Marcelline and three other members of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, formed the Anon String Quartet. This Quartet performs a variety of music, ranging from Baroque to Contemporary music.

To date; the epitomy of Marcelline’s career occurred in June 2006, when she was invited to perform with the World Philharmonic Orchestra, a once in a life time honor, at the Cour d’Honneur of the Hotel des Invalides and at Ville De Reims, in Paris, France. Under the fiery baton, of the world famous Japanese Conductor Yutaka Sado, an orchestra of eighty nationalities,a truly “World Spirit” made vibrant, splendid and intense music. “ ….And that this orchestra, was far more than just a superb instrument.”
