	He was High Commissioner for Malta in London in 1987-1990, and was concurrently Ambassador to Norway, Sweden and Denmark and to Ireland in l990. He was Deputy Editor of the Times of Malta, and Malta correspondent of The Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph (London). He served in the 11 HAA Regiment (T), Royal Malta Artillery, and after training at the British Broadcasting Corporation, was appointed Chief Executive of the Malta Broadcasting Authority, and later Managing Director of the Rediffusion Group of Companies in Malta. In l983, he became Director-General of the Confederation of Private Enterprise. For ten years he was the founder-editor of Treasures of Malta, and General Editor of some thirty book published by ‘Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti’ (Maltese Heritage Foundation) of which he was Deputy Chairman. In 2003 he was presented with the ‘Gold Award’ for ‘outstanding contribution to professional journalism’, and in 2005 given as Award for his contribution to ‘Cultural Tourism’. He is Co-Chairman of the ‘St Agatha Restoration Fund’ in Mdina. Among his publications is The Bonham Carter Diaries l936-1940 (what the British Governor thought of Malta and the Maltese), published in 2004. He was Chairman of the Board of Governors of St Edward’s College, and later a trustee of the Lady Strickland Trust for the College. John Manduca married Sylvia Parnis in l954; they have four children and eight grandchildren.
