Mro. Salvatore Mallia
Mro. Salvatore Mallia directed to the Mother of the Maltese and Gozitan Band three times. Maestro Salvatore Mallia also served as musical director with these bands: Għaqda Mużikali San Nikola of Siġġiewi (1901-1935), Duke of Connaught Own Band Club, of Birkirkara (1905-1906), Soċjeta Filarmonika Pinto Banda San Sebastjan at [[Ħal-Qormi (1911-1920), Għaqda Mużikali San Gejtanu of Ħamrun (1914-1920), and Għaqda Karmelitana, Banda Queen Victoria of Iż-Żurrieq (1919 - 1924), Union Band Club of Ħal-Luqa (1921-1937), Għaqda Mużikali L'Isle Adam (1924-1936) and Vilhena Band Club of Floriana. In 1894 Mro. Salvatore Mallia at the age of 21 he was appointed conductor musical director of the Filarmonica Society San Filippo (1894-1899). It was the first Band directed this Head.
On 22nd March, 1896 a meeting was colossal at the Floriana granaries in protest against the government's desire to introduce civil marriage. On 20th June, 1897 The Soċjeta Filarmonika Banda San Filep took part along with other civil and military bands in large parade held to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria birthday its 62nd year. The bands were collected at the Floriana granaries and rang and moved to town after where in Queen Square statue salut its image by playing of God Save The Queen.
1903 Mro. Salvatore Mallia again musical director was appointed conductor of the Philharmonic Society San Filippo (1903-1904). On 27 September, 1903 On the occasion of the inauguration of the High Cross within Siġġiewi and with the blessing of Pope Leo XIII. This Cross is also known as' Laferla Cross, to His promoter, Don Paul Laferla. The bless cross from Bishop Monsignor Salvatore Gaffiero. Was a musical program at San Filippo Band of Żebbuġ and Siġġiewi Nicolina under the direction of Mro. Salvatore Mallia. This ceremony was recalled by setting the size of a marble plaque on the pedestal of the cross.
On 9th November, 1904 This year came the statue of Beata Vergine of Sorrows Żebbuġ from Lecce. The Soċjeta Filarmonika Banda San Filep committed musical program under the direction of Mro. Salvatore Mallia. The San Filippo Philharmonic took part musicaly each year on the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The Society has also organized secondary beautiful holiday, with fireworks and decorated also the square. This lasted for several years after.
In 1921 Mro. Salvatore Mallia for the third time he became again director, and was appointed headmaster of Soċjeta Filarmonika Banda San Filep (1921).
On 11th January, 1921 The Soċjeta Filarmonika Banda San Filep under the direction of Maestro Salvatore Mallia this along with other bands participated when it was in force the first constitution and accountable government. At the celebration were present His Excellency Prince Edward, Prince of Wales was Malta for the occasion.
The Lord has been pleased to summon Mro. Salvatore Mallia suddenly dead held on Friday, precisely on 26 March of the year 1937 at 65 years. This occurred at around the four quarter in the morning at his residence 30, St James Road, Siġġiewi. At his funeral, held the day Saturday, the St. Nicholas Band, L'Isle Adam and Union, one united Banda, rang funeral marches. The Filarmonica Society attended San Filippo great represantion by the committee, conductor, musicians and menbers.
Other musical organizations from each locality Malta as well as regimental band RMA were represented by thirty-six stendard. Many wreaths and accompanied the coffin of the deceased headmaster and beautiful crown was that was one beggar from Valletta, whom Mallia was very charitable. His burial took place in the parish church of Siġġiewi. The death of this late Headmaster felt by everyone, but undoubtedly treasured by his wife Marianna, who died five days so behind.
